P0302 code

Start by checking for intake leaks and if no leaks are found the next step is to replace the spark plugs on cylinder 2. If the problem persists more tests needs to be done to diagnose problem, see Possible Causes. Cylinder misfire detected. Each cylinder fires a spark plug one after another.


A spark plug is located on the top of each cylinder. This code will trigger the check engine light as follows: The misfire detection monitor, a software strategy built into the computer, is designed to detect an engine misfire. Guy said fuel pump changed it starts. Cause: Engine running in a positive torque condition, then the PCM detected a misfire condition in engine cylinder number (lack of spark or fuel metering, base engine). Often this from a misfire, as fuel that is not burned by the cylinder dumps into the exhaust and causes the cat to overheat with all that fuel, damaging internal components. This time it presented after the car had been running for over an hour and had idled for about minutes without moving.

It was extremely cold in our area (probably around 15F this morning, with the garage aound 30F). I ignored the knock sensor code and saw that the cap was burned out. If the last digit is a number other than zero, it corresponds to the cylinder number that is misfiring. My Car Chip from Davis shows that the misfire seems to be occuring only right after startup, and not while at speed going down the interstate.


An easier way is to swap wire and plug from the cylinder your getting the code from to a different cylinder and see if the code changes. The car is running a little rough but not dying. Have your cylinder check for proper compression before doing tune up. Last month I threw a random misfire code cyl changed the plugs, cleared the code and it was back with in ten minutes. Pulled the code again, same code. Took the day off to do compression again.


Check engine light came on, then started flashing on a trip home. I bought a code reader and scanned the code. I have driven it only as necessary since.

Pull over, retighten it, and take a look at the cap to see if it has any cracks in it. Continue driving and see if the check engine light turns off. White smoke was coming from the left side of the engine along with a burning smell.


I was able to make it home and my husband did the spark plugs, coil pack and checked the wires. Nasty acceleration, so I avoided driving like normal, babied the car. I swapped plugs, replaced wires, swapped wires, etc.


The problem always stayed on cylinder 2. Also agree that the water pump should have been covered.
