P0128 code

The Engine Control Module (ECM) determines this length of time based on ambient temperature. Experience: Ase Master Certifie GM Master Certified Tech. Hello, code PO1is for thermostat. An engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor monitors the temperature of the coolant.

In some cars, however, the problem could be solved by reprogramming the engine computer (PCM) with an updated software. In other words the engine is running too cold – or at least the PCM thinks it is. See common problems below. Most PCMs mandate that the engine coolant temperature sensor record temperatures above 160º F within minutes of the engine starting.

Additionally, once the 160º F threshold is achieve the recorded engine temperature must not fall below 160º F during operation. The PCM will record if either of these two criteria are not met. Leaking or stuck open thermostat. An Engine Coolant Temperature () sensor monitors the temperature of the coolant. Faulty intake air temperature (IAT) sensor.

The air flow coming into the engine is accumulated and used to determine if the vehicle has been driven within. SAVE MONEY and buy Motor Oils and Car Parts online - FREE SHIPPING! Fault codes that can be triggered due to engine coolant thermostat failures.

Mercedes thermostat part numbers. Leave a comment below or tell us if the information above help you fix the code. L engines where the temperature gauge stays on COL but the cooling fans are on. Indicates that the thermostat monitor has not achieved the required engine operating temperature within a specified amount of time after starting the engine. Change out of Thermostat fixed the problem.

I looked up the code and it means Coolant Temperature Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature. I cleared it, and the vehicle actually passed inspection right after. Possibly not even the thermostat.

It could be the sensor but is much more likely to be the thermostat itself. It takes my guage a long time to move up,but the digitcal reading on my added programmer reads the correct temp. For proper and efficient warm up, the coolant needs to stay trapped inside the engine to absorb the heat until it reaches the right temperature.

Taking your car into a shop will cost you around $2depending on the car. The truck had the MIL came on Sunday then by Tuesday, it turned off. This is the thermostat’s job. I thought the new one failed so I put in a NAPA thermo. There is a low level of engine coolant.

I am looking for more help. Thermostat rationality) The Dealer replaced the thermostat and after drive cycles, it came on again for the same code. The same code came up and my car cut off while driving. The ECM is calculating an expected Coolant Temp given the fuel that has been burned and the time that it has been burning it. If the coolant temp does not meet or exceed the calculated temp, you get the code.

I have replaced the thermostat two times drive approximately two hundred miles light comes back on and throwing same code. Replaced ECT sensor drove approximately fifty miles same thing! Hate to keep throwing parts please advise. A skewed IAT sensor can cause this DTC to set.

The Service Engine Light came on. Basically it sees the temp rise then fall agian and then it states that the regulating thermostat is not workign properly. I took it to the dealer and they pulled the same code and replaced the thermostat.

That code sets when the engine does not reach a certain temperature within a given amount time. While the car is standing still the car will warm up quickly even without a thermastat. No Airflow through the radiator until the fan comes on.

We have also included diagnostic procedures you can take to your repair shop if the mechanic is having difficulty analyzing the code. During the engine warm up phase the way the engine temperature should increase is calculated. Factors such as engine load and the start temperature are taken into account.

However, the temperature gaughe is working normal stay in the middle. When I looked at where on the engine where the sensor and thermostat was located (adjacent to one another) I decided my time was worth more than a $guess which one might be bad.

The check engine light is on. False readings somewhere in the middle will give combinations of both symptoms. Good answer, interesting point. Usually not getting hot enough in the time given, that is standard.

According to my research, of the people who had this code needed to replace the thermostat. It goes up only when driving up hill. Other than that it is just normal.

Basically the thermostat is stuck open and the engine is not getting to operating temperature.

I was getting weird MAF and EGR codes so I took out my Fingerstick to trouble shoot. From what I rea it might be a tune-dependent code.
