7 3 Hpop test

Guys, is it possible to take the high pressure oil lines off the high pressure oil rails, cap one of the lines off and tie the other line into a high pressure gauge. The diesel pump is pumping, so I thought that I would unscrew the hex plug on the top of the HPOP to see if any oil would fly out of it since it is under pressure. The HPOP receives oil from the low pressure oil pump in order to drive the injectors, and the computer will then tell the injectors exactly when to fire. I can change the oil in just my crankcase and start the truck and let it run for about a min, then shut it down and open up the HPOP reservoir and the oil is a brand new golden brown.
