Morning squeak from overnight rain, dew, or condensation moisture. Rear drum brake squeaks when shoe-to-backing-late contact points need lubrication. Thinning brake pads set off brake wear indicator squeak.

Something was squeaking when it retracted inside the drum.
Every time I let off the pedal (stopped or moving) it would squeak. My advice would be to try and make sure the noise is coming from the drums before you open them up. The only brake work done to my knowledge, is the set of front rear shoes i just put on, in an attempt to stop the squeal. I have full braking and it does not seem to be worn out at all from the feel of it, Can they be taken apart to be cleaned? When the freshly machined drums are reinstalled and the lugs are tightene even to their proper torque, the distorted wheel will actually deform the just turned brake drum.
The last vehicle I saw this on was a near new dealer demo car with less than 4miles on it. The rear brakes would squeal loud enough to be heard a block away. If this is the cause of your noise , you need a normal brake service, which includes replacing the pads and possibly turning the rotors. While I hate drums (yet I still accepted it because of the reputation of Tacoma), I cannot accept having to clean the brakes every 10k miles to keep them quiet. Take the back wheel off, lift out the drum. Tap out the brake dust, then wipe round the drum with a damp cloth.
Takes me back that does, my CG used to suffer with the embarrassing rear brake squeal. So over the summer I noticed that my brakes are squealing , so I figure ok time to replace the pads. This will go away after time but the amount of time depends on several things.
The Crosley disc was a Goodyear development,. Sometimes they squeal just because the manufacturer did not clean the protective coating from the brake drum before putting the wheel on the bike so there was a light film of oil on the drum that got on the shoes and glazed them. It goes away after the brakes warm up. There are also aftermarket metal shims or metal foil appliqués. The aftermarket plastic coatings for the backing plates and brake grease can also be used as well.
Re: Rear brake drum squeak ! I sand the drum case and clean it out with acetone. Grinding noise — This noise is common primarily during the first few stops on rear drum brakes and on some front disc brakes due to the formation of trace corrosion if the vehicle has not been driven recently. If the noise disappears after a few stops, it does not indicate a problem.
Did a rear brake job on the Taurus last fall, replacing one drum as it get scored. I ended up with noise on the brake with the replaced drum when driving at low speeds, like a grinding noise , which went away when braking.
