I found a replacement shaft on eBay for a previous 996. Cost to replace RMS, LNE IMS retrofit, and new clutch. At K miles I would think the bearing should.
The design, materials, engineering, and serviceability of the LN IMS Retrofit. Many will have tips or even tools you can borrow and use. IMS failure caused a COMPLETE DESTRUCTION of engine!
Replaced original IMS bearing 0miles BEFORE replacement failed. The original bearing was in a Stage failure. At least that seems to be what I am reading. The whole engine must be removed and then opened up in order to get at the damn stupid lubricated for life and sealed IMS bearing. Probably around $5K - the 9replacement costs more than the 9because the entire engine has to be removed for the bearing replacement work.

Compared to the cost of an engine replacement it’s cheap insurance. LN has the shop that performs the work send in the original bearing for assessment. I've had it since new, and I've watched it depreciate from $50to maybe $20at best.
The majority of the depreciation hit is behind me. I intend to keep it until I can't get out of it. I went for the IMS retrofit for the peace of mind instead of the nagging worry of a potential engine replacement. The cost was about $200.
The part price seems low particularly for an ims bearing. Porsche 911) JTJ in Arlington,. I am sure there will be others posting here shortly.
