Fix broken car key plastic top

I am former Nissan technician, and we saw this sort of thing all the time, where the top thin part breaks off. I had my fob break one time but was still able to start the car as long as the part with the buttons was close. Yours looks like if it has one its either connected to the key itself or inside the plastic.


I need some kind of fix for the plastic part of a Nissan car key. There is a chip in the key and when the car was purchased use they only gave us one key. Anything I can buy online?

Making a duplicate key from anywhere other than the Nissan Dealer will not start the car but will open the door due to an immobilizer chip built inside the OEM Key. It would be stupid if it could be done with one key. If you broke the key , assuming the RF chip is fine, you can take a door key with no chip and hold the broken key near the ignition. If your car alarm remote hasn’t broken off yet then just remove your remote from the key ring and place it into the tote. This way the key ring will be swinging on the grommets on the tote and not on the plastic loop on the remote.


Use two or three sections of duct tape to bond the plastic to the top and bottom of the window, pulling the plastic taut as you do so. You want as little give in the temporary barrier as possible. Once the top and bottom ends are in place, run long strips of duct tape around the entire window frame, at least two of them. De-ice a car door lock with hand sanitizer.
